Our cow Moonie finally delivered her baby this week.
As some of you may know, we purchased Moonie pregnant earlier this year, and we were told her due date would be sometime in October – maybe as late as November.
Well, by the time December was half way over we were starting to get really curious about when that baby would show up. The vet told us there just isn’t any way to say for sure, if you don’t know the date of conception. So all we could do was wait.
Meanwhile, Moonie got gigantic. She got so big, she got stuck between two farm buildings! Not knowing what to do about it, she just stood there until Mark came and walked her out again.
Anyway, by the time January rolled around she still hadn’t given birth; so, we did a “Name the Date” contest, because this was getting kind of crazy.
Well, finally, Moonie did deliver!
She gave birth last Tuesday, January 10th, around 3pm.
The contest winner was Angie Larionov, who guessed January 12th at 7am. (The grand prize is one gallon of fresh milk from the farm, plus $10 store credit at the Farm & Garden Center. Congratulations once again, Angie.)
The calf is a beautiful baby girl, and she and her mom are doing great together.
Many thanks to everyone who wished Moonie an easy birth. She did a great job, and we’re really happy for her.
